Who Are Seventh-day Adventists?

As a Christian church, Seventh-day Adventists are a faith community rooted in the beliefs described by the Holy Scriptures. Adventists describe these beliefs in the following ways: God's greatest desire is for you to see a clear picture of His character. When you see Him clearly, you will find His love irresistible.

Bolingbrook Seventh-Day Adventist Church Mission

The mission of the Bolingbrook Seventh-day Adventist Church is to tell our world of God's eternal love for humanity. This will be accomplished through the power of the Holy Spirit, and the privilege of prayer so that Jesus will be revealed to others.

The Church History

On February 12,1977 the first worship service of the new Bolingbrook Seventh-day Adventist Company was held in the rented facilities of the Bolingbrook Church of the Nazarene, located at 509 East Briarcliff. On May 1, 1977, the Bolingbrook Company was welcomed into the sisterhood of churches of Illinois Conference of Seventh-day Adventist.

By the end of 1977, thirty-six names were listed as members. Then, as now there were others who supported and worked in and for the church.

Both the building of this congregation and the construction of this building are closely tied to another Seventh-day Adventist Church, the Swedish Seventh-day Adventist Church which, in 1968 moved from it's Austin location in Chicago to the western suburb of Oak Brook.

The Oak Brook (Swedish) members dreamed of having their own church home. However, their membership decreased to the point in 1974 that the members voted to temporarily discontinue regular weekly services for a period of from 8-12 months and continue looking for a community where a church was needed.

The Oak Brook Church purchased the 3.1 acre site known as 301 East Boughton Road in the fall of 1974. When in April 1977, the Oak Brook members voted to disband, they also voted to give the land they had purchased and other materials on hand, such as a piano, hymnals, communion table, organ, etc. to the new company in Bolingbrook.

It did not take long for the members and friends of the Bolingbrook Church to begin to dream of having their own home. They had been given land by the Oak Brook Church and when they learned of four mobile classroom units for sale, they purchased them. Finally on July 9, 1979, ground was broken to begin construction of the present building located at 301 East Boughton Road.

Besides the property and other donations by the Oak Brook Church, funds to begin the building project came from several other sources: members of the Hinsdale Church, donations by the Bolingbrook Company, funds provided by the Illinois Conference. Funds were also borrowed from the Lake Union Conference. On September 21, 1991, the mortgage was paid off, and the church was dedicated.
